Joy and Happiness

Happiness and joy are two different things. Happiness is on a physical level and joy is on a spiritual level. Though we can try to be happy, and that`s alright, life DOES effect our happiness. The Bible says that the Christians were hated, tormented, destitute, etc.; they had sorrow. Things in life can give us happiness, but they are temporal. This can cause us to lose our happiness. But joy is a spiritual thing. We have joy because we`ve been born again. The truth of our salvation, and our hope in Jesus gives us joy. Notice that joy is one of the fruits of the Spirit, not happiness. We were never promised happiness, but we ARE promised joy. Happiness comes and goes, but joy is eternal. The joy of the LORD is our strength. Things in life do effect our happiness, we can`t always be happy; but we can always have joy.

   Life brings us happiness, Jesus gives us joy.

   Happiness fades, joy stays.

(Isaiah 53:3; Hebrews 11:37; John 16:33; Nehemiah 8:10; Galatians 5:22-23)

Isaiah 53: 3

             He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him;

             he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Hebrews 11:37

             They were stoned , they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and

              goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

John 16:33

               These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: But be of

               good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Nehemiah 8:10

                      Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom

                      nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our LORD: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is our strength.

Galatians 5:22-23

                       But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against

                       such there is no law.
